One of our key focuses is employing and training women within our local community. The majority of our team are women and we are the largest employer in the town of Kamalo.
Our semi-automated cashew nut processing line is the first installation of it's kind in Sierra Leone allowing us to build a strong foundation for future growth and longevity.
Upon installation of our production line, we provided training to our team to ensure they are proficient in operating and maintaining all equipment.
We firmly believe in a transparent supply-chain and work directly with a network of cashew growers all in close proximity to our factory.
Our emphasis on quality control allows us to ensure export grade cashew nuts to our main export market being the United Kingdom.
Sierra Leone boasts a dedicated sea port allowing for export across the Atlantic ocean to markets in the USA and Europe.
Zuzana and Imran both reside in the UK and met through their shared interest in plant-based living and nutrition.
Zuzana's background is in the health and fitness industry with over 20 years of experience along with being a trained nutritionist and self-confessed foodie.
Imran had first visited Sierra Leone in 2012 and fondly recalled his interaction with the cashew nut sellers often selling small handfuls of cashew nuts by the side of the road on his journey from Freetown to Makeni.
Fast forward to 2020 when Imran setup Prime Earth Foods in the UK and by 2022 with its presence firmly established Zuzana and Imran both discussed about setting up a cashew nut factory in Africa and the country of choice was of course, Sierra Leone!
In December 2023 with the cashew factory successfully installed in Kamalo, Sierra Leone we appointed a local team headed by our operations manager Mr. Abdulai Dumbuya to manage the factory and today we have a team of 38 Sierra Leoneon's overseeing the entire production process.
The cashew sector in Sierra Leone is still in it's infancy, yet the implementation of our cashew factory will help to contribute to the export of cashew kernels rather than raw cashew nuts (RCN's) which do not provide much positive impact to the country as they tend to be processed in the likes of India and Vietnam.
We firmly believe about building a thriving cashew nut industry in Sierra Leone that can help empower rural communities, create jobs and showcase cashew nuts and other food products from Sierra Leone to the UK and beyond.
Thank you for reading :)

A key focus is to utilise the health benefits of cashew nuts by creating innovative new lines of vegan cheese, cream-cheese style spreads, flavoured nuts, dips and sauces!
Their established presence in the UK will provide Green Roots Agro with the opportunity to supply them with cashews nuts and many other food related products grown and processed in Sierra Leone.
We aim to expand a diverse range of food products sourced from Sierra Leone by establishing strong, sustainable partnerships with local farmers and growers.
Our focus will be primarily on the exports of these tropical foods such as dried fruits, hibiscus, moringa, dried chilli, sesame seeds, kola nut, fonio, cassava flour, ground nuts, tiger nuts and hemp seeds.
Our collaboration with Prime Earth Foods in the UK will create a marketing channel for Green Roots Agro to showcase and promote variety of foods grown and processed in Sierra Leone.
Another key objective is working with our existing network of cashew growers along with expanding and partnering with growers of hibiscus, moringa, groundnuts and more.
We plan to launch a sustainable range of peanut butter, peanut trail mixes, and jams by prioritising eco-friendly practices and ethical sourcing throughout our production process.
Our peanut butter and trail mixes will be crafted from peanuts grown using regenerative farming techniques that enhance soil health and biodiversity. The jams will be made from locally sourced, organic fruits to minimise our carbon footprint and support regional farmers.
Additionally, we are committed to fair trade practices, ensuring that all stakeholders in our supply chain are compensated fairly.
This holistic approach not only meets the growing consumer demand in Sierra Leone for affordable, sustainable and convenient snacks but also aligns with our dedication to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
Our forthcoming exports of cashew nuts from Sierra Leone to the UK will also include a number of handmade wooden designs, the majority of each item sold will be returned to the cratftsmen and women to inspire them to continue in their creative profession.
Such bespoke items will appeal to those wanting to create a unique interior feature within their home.
